Here are few most common ways in which Trojan can harm the system and the owner of an infected computer:

  • Espionage is one of the most widespread requests for hackers on the Internet. People want to know what their colleagues or bosses do, read the mail they receive etc. This can be easily done by inserting a Trojan onto man’s PC, that will perform as a keylogger and give up all logins and passwords. The more complex versions can even film the video and record the sound through the in-built recording devices of the computer or laptop.
  • Another Trojan option is and advertising fraud. Usually it is associated with adware or browser hijackers, but these programs need to be controlled, and the hidden program on victims’ computer is the best way to do that. Trojans manage the adware on an infected device, receive updates and protect other unwanted programs from deletion.
  • Some Trojans are used to create botnets. Botnet is a large network that might contain tens of thousands of computers, and these computers belong to common users who don’t even know it. These botnets can be used for criminal activities such as malspam, DDoS attacks etc.
  • The last of these options is bitcoin mining. Actually it might be not exactly Bitcoin but any other relevant crypto-currency. Now, when almost all crypto-currencies became very popular, some scammers try to earn at the expense of usual people. They put the mining software into the Trojan and distribute it on thousands of computer. So, the more devices get infected, the more money will scammers earn.
